Pool Pump Reviews: Savior NCSF55 Solar Pool Filter Pump

I am a hotel owner and I highly value energy efficiency especially when it comes to outdoor equipment. I’m sure that you do too, since energy-efficient equipment saves you money in the short term and in the long term. The Savior NCSF55 Solar Pool Pump and Filter System will work with solar energy. You will not have to spend a single penny on electricity for running the pump and the filtering system that it comes with.

I decided to write this Savior NCSF55 review because the pool pump is really interesting and fairly innovative. If you had been involved in the management of swimming pools for quite some time, like me, you may be a bit skeptic about the technology. However, it is worth looking at the facts before coming to a conclusion.

Product Description

Savior NCSF55 has a flat panel with a square shape and rounded sides. It is made from durable and light plastic. A 55-watt 12-volt square policrystalline silicon solar panel is imbedded into the plastic one. Underneath the plastic panel, there are 3 20-micron filter cartilages which are reusable.

The pool pump floats on the water of the swimming pool or spa. It is powered by energy from the sun. The energy is collected by the solar panel and transformed into mechanical energy which forces water through the filter cartilages.

Main Features

This Savior solar pool pump measures 35 by 35.5 by 12 inches. It is fairly compact. It is also quite light so that it can float on the water. The main panel is made from durable plastic. It should be resistant to the ultraviolet radiation of the sun and to the chemicals in the pool.

The embedded solar panel measures 25.7 by 25.2 by 1.38 inches. The solar panel produces 55 watts of power when capturing solar energy. Its voltage is 12 volts. The solar panel is made from tempered glass.

The water is filtered through the 3 20-micron filter cartilages. These cartilages are reusable. They require cleaning from time to time in order to work effectively. No other maintenance is required.

The flow rate of Savior NCSF55 is 18 GPM (gallons per minute). This Savior pool filter pump will work at maximum resistance of 10 feet of head. According to the manufacturer, the effective filtration area is 96 square feet. The device pumps as many as 11,000 gallons per day. The filter system eliminates 17,000 pounds of pollution from the water per year. This data is also available from the maker of the product.

Savior NCSF55 reviewThe typical pump life is 1,500 hours. According to the manufacturer, the mechanical motor/pump and the filters of the cartilages will require replacement every 2 to 3 years. According to the manufacturer the total replacement cost, which you will need to incur every 2 or 3 years is $100. From my perspective, the calculation is fairly accurate, but as time passes, you can expect to pay slightly more. The life expectancy of the solar panel is from 10 to 30 years.

The flow rate of the filter pump is not among the highest. However, it is actually not supposed to be since the device floats on the surface of the pool and filters the water there. This explains the fairly low maximum resistance. A standard pump usually has a much higher flow rate because it pumps and filters the water in the entire pool.

The manufacturer has stated explicitly that the Solar pool filter pump is for pools, spas, hot tubs and Jacuzzis provided that their surface area is not larger than 96 square feet. If you have a bigger pool, this device may not be the best option for you. Still, the device is perfectly suitable for most home pools and for smaller pools in hotels and resorts.

Savior NCSF55 has a number of notable advantages:

  • Easy and Simple to Install

This pool pump and its filter system work with solar energy only. The device does not require connection to the electric grid. It does not have any batteries that have to be replaced. In order to install the device, you simply need to set it up in line with the instructions of the manufacturer and place it in the pool. You certainly save money as professional installation is not required.

  • Compactness and Lightness

The device can float on the water and do its job well. When you want to enjoy the pool, you can simply take it out so that it does not interfere with your activities. There are two handles on two sides of the plastic panel which make your job easier.

  • Quiet Operation

This is perhaps one of the things that users will appreciate the most. This pool pump is much quieter than its traditional counterparts. I personally appreciate quiet operation greatly because I want to provide the most relaxing pool experience to the guests of my hotels.

  • Energy Efficiency

This is the major advantage of Savior NCSF55 from Natural Current. It does not cost anything to operate. It uses the free energy from the sun. This will save you a considerable amount of money.

  • Easy Cleaning and Maintenance

You need to clean the filters occasionally as required by the manufacturer. Motor and filter replacement are required every 2 to 3 years and this should not be a problem not only for managers of hotel pools but also for homeowners.

The drawbacks of Savior NCSF55 are:

  • Surface Cleaning only

The pump removes small debris from the surface of the water, but not from the bottom. This is generally not such a big issue since most particles readily float on the surface instead of sinking.

  • Slows Down under Shadow

You can expect the solar pump to work even on cloudy days as the sun’s ultraviolet radiation still reaches the Earth. The device will work under the shade, but it will slow down its operation to an extent. Again, this should not be a major issue since most pools are not under trees.

I think that the Savior NCSF55 Solar Pool Pump and Filter System is a great choice for energy saving. It works well and has no operational costs. It is a cost-efficient solution that will allow you to use the regular pump much less frequently and save on its operation and maintenance.
